Tips for Eco-Friendly Spring Cleaning in 2019

Spring is right around the corner, so we’ve gathered the top eco-friendly cleaning hacks for your household or business. Not only does a good spring clean-up promote wellness, it also helps bring the feeling of a “fresh start” back from the excitement of the new year!

Spring Cleaning

To beat showerhead buildup, use vinegar. Vinegar is one of the most effective ways to dissolve mineral deposits from showerheads. Using this dissolving method, your waterhead will once again produce steady pressure and water flow. To do this, use a reusable bag filled with vinegar and secure around the showerhead with a rubber band overnight. The next morning, your showerhead will be clean and restored back to full health. Keep the vinegar out for our next tip.

Clean mirrors and windows with old newspaper. Mix together 2 cups of water, ¼ cup of vinegar, and 2 teaspoons of dish soap into a spray bottle—spray generously over mirrors or glass and wipe away with newspaper. This will leave your window or mirror streak-free as the ink from the newspaper acts as a mild abrasive and allows for use of old newspapers. Talk about reduce, reuse, recycle!

Use a lemon to remove water stains from faucets. The acid in the citrus removes hard, set-in water marks and leaves your faucet clean and sparkly. Use half a lemon for this job and save the other half for our next tip.

Give your microwave a makeover by heating lemon rinds and juice in water. Using half of a lemon, squeeze the juice into a half cup of water and add the lemon rinds to the mixture. For 3 minutes, run the microwave on full power and let the mixture stand for 5 minutes after without opening the door. This steam from the mixture will help loosen leftover food splatter and grime so it can be wiped away clean and easy.

Clean your grill with an onion. With warm, delightful weather quickly approaching, having a clean grill is a Spring essential. To clean your grill, turn the heat up and spray some white vinegar onto the grates to loosen residue. Next, scrub the grates with half of an onion—the acid from the onion will clean your grill of leftover BBQ remnants from yester-season.

Use old socks for dusting. Instead of paying for dusting products like the Swiffer Duster and its refills, use your old socks for your dusting needs. Cotton is a wonderful product for collecting and trapping dust particles. Use an old pair of socks as dusting mitts and watch the control you have over the movement of dust particles. Goodbye dander!
